ICAR-Mizoram Centre conducts training programme on “Application of micronutrients to rejuvenate citrus for Mizoram farmers”
A training programme on “Application of micronutrients to rejuvenate citrus for Mizoram farmers” was organized under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib from 6h to 8th October, 2016. About 45 citrus growing farmers from different parts of Kolasib district attended the programme.
Dr. Lungmuana, Scientist (Soil Science) welcome the participants followed by introductory remarks from Dr. S.B. Singh, Joint Director who highlighted the production status of citrus and factors responsible for citrus decline. The Joint Director also stresses the importance of micronutrient for rejuvenation citrus. This was followed by distribution of multiplex (micronutrient fertilizer), chemicals-borax, zinc, manganese sulphate, etc and sprayers. Finally vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. T. Boopathi, Scientist (Entomology).
The technical programme involves presentation and detail discussion on various issues of citrus decline which were handled by scientists from different fields. Dr. Lungmuana handled soil related issues and nutritional aspects, importance of micronutrient. Dr. Vishambar Dayal, Scientist (Horticulture) handle issues relating to production technology, management including the operations such as training, pruning, budding etc. Dr. A.R. Singh, Scientist (Plant pathology) handled the disease of citrus and factors affecting it and how to manage or prevent from diseases for healthy plant. Dr. T. Boopathi, Scientist (Entomology) handled issues regarding insects and pest which affects citrus and management. Vanthawmliana, SRF (NICRA) takes the farmers for ICAR farm visits. Difficulties and problems of fruit crops other than citrus were also raised by the farmers and were discussed with respective scientists. Hands on practical and demonstration on the use of micronutrient fertilizer, making of bordeaux mixture, removing the dead twigs and branches was also done on nearby citrus orchards. A good interaction between the scientist and farmers was there.
