ICAR Workshop on “Doubling the farmers’ income by 2022” in Sikkim

 

A Day-long workshop on “Doubling the farmers’ income by 2022” in Sikkim was organized by ICAR-ATARI-VI, Guwahati on October 28, 2017 at 10.00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall at ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong, Gangtok. The objective of the program was to implement the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi for doubling the farmers income by 2022. The agenda were to evaluate the different Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Sikkim regarding the village-level pilot program for the doubling the farmers’ income by 2022 and discuss the detailed action plan of each KVK with different available technological approaches.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ATARI-VI. At the outset, Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong, Gangtok welcomed the Director ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VI, the representatives of different organization, Heads of all the KVKs of Sikkim and Scientists and Subject Matter Specialists of ICAR-NOFRI and KVK-East Sikkim. Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director and Guest of Honour of the workshop informed the House that the ICAR-NOFRI in collaboration with KVK-East Sikkim had conducted three workshops on “Village-level pilot program for doubling the farmers’ income by 2022 in Sikkim”. He highlighted on application of area specific technology modules along with all possible combinations for doubling the farmer’s income depending on various agro-ecological as well as socio-economic conditions of the farming community. He also stressed upon the altitude wise selection of crops, value addition and marketing.  

Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ATARI, Zone-VI, Guwahati delivered a talk through a presentation on “Model for doubling farmer’s income”. He mentioned about the seven points strategy for doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. He also stressed upon the convergence level with different line Departments to achieve the desired goal of doubling the farmer’s income.

During the workshop all the Sr. Scientist & Heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Sikkim gave the presentation regarding the baseline survey and the already disseminated technologies in their respective adopted village for the doubling the farmers’ income by 2022. Finally the workshop concluded with recommendation from the different stake holders. Action plan of the each and every household need to be prepared. Baseline production of existing component should be mentioned and matrix should be developed. Database of the farmers should be prepared along with average household income of individual family. Annual income break up should be as per the different existing module viz., agriculture, horticulture, animal science etc. Vermicompost unit should be prepared under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. All the KVKs need to prepare the action plan according to the common format given by ATARI, Zone-VI.  The House suggested preparation of intervention wise and year wise module for individual household. Director ATARI, Zone-VI suggested all the KVK to submit the survey report as per the given format within the month of November, 2017.

The meeting was concluded with the remarks made by chairman of the workshop Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ATARI, Zone-VI. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Sr. Scientist and Head (I/c), KVK, East Sikkim.
