ICAR- KVK, West Garo Hills celebrated “World Environment Day 2018” in NICRA villages
KVK, ICAR, Tura celebrated “World Environment Day 2018” in Marapara village under Dalu Block of West Garo Hills District, Meghalaya along with around 50 participants including students, teachers and villagers. The programme was initiated with a brief lecture on “Beat Plastic Pollution”, the theme of this year’s world environment day celebration at U.P School in Maraparaby Shri. A. S. Singh (Senior Scientist & Head, i/c). He shared about the objectives and importance for observing World Environment Day on 5th June of every year. He emphasised on theimportance of conserving the environment and harmful effects of dumping plastics in our surroundings. He also stressed upon the harmful effects of deforestation made by farmers due to shifting cultivation. After his speech, the staffs of KVK and the students of the school along with villagersplanted 10 saplings of BokulandNagesor (Iron tree) trees in the school compound. KVK staffs also planted 20 saplings in the compound of Custom Hiring Centre of the NICRA villages. Other 20 saplings were distributed among the farmers for plantation in the compounds of other schools in near by villages.
