World Coconut Day Observed

‘Sasya Shyamala’ Krishi Vigyan Kendra observed World Coconut Day today in association with Coconut Development Board at Narendrapur, on the outskirts of Kolkata, to mark the establishment of Asia-Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) on 2nd Sept, 1969.

Swami Shivapuranandaji Maharaj, Assistant Administrative Head, IRDM Faculty Centre and Vice Chairman of the Sasya Shyamala; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University inaugurated the programme.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-II emphasized on developing awareness among the farmers and thanked the coconut Development Board for taking initiatives on for organizing this programme and FOCT (Friends of Coconut Trees) training programme in collaboration with the KVKs of West Bengal.

Mr. Khokan Debnath, Deputy Director, Coconut Development Board spoke to the farmers on
‘Formation of Coconut Producer Societies’ in W.B. and apprised the farmers on different
schemes of the board.

Dr. S.K. Naskar, Ex-Director, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Tiruvanantapuram; Professor Apurba Bandopadhyay, Faculty of Horticulture, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya; Dr. Manas Ghosh, Director, SAMETI;  Dean, Faculty of IRDM and Dr. N.C. Sahu, Programme Coordinator of ‘Sasya Shyamala’ KVK were present on the occasion.

One hundred and twenty (120) coconut farmers from different districts of West Bengal, Faculty members and research scholars of the University, Programme Co-Ordinators and SMSs   of   South   24   Parganas   (Nimpith   and   Narendrapur),   Birbhum,   Hooghly   and Murshidabad KVKs participated in the programme.
