Vocational Training On Seed Production Of Pulses Organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi
KVK, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organised a 7 days vocational training programme on Seed Production of Pulses w.e.f. 6-12 Feb 2017 at KVK Ri-Bhoi premises. Sixteen farmers from Umeit village were selected for the said training programme. Ms. Meghna Sarma, SMS, Agronomy as a course Director has conducted the training in order to make the farmers aware of pulse crop since the region is deficit in pulse production and productivity. The main objective of the programme is to improve the knowledge of the farming community about cultivation of pulses by making their region self sufficient in pulse production.
The programme started with brief speech by Dr. Mokidul Islam, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Ri-Bhoi about promotion of pulses to increase cropping intensity and additional income for their livelihood improvement. Dr. Anup Das, Principal Scientist & Head, Division of Crop Production, ICAR Umiam delivered speech on importance of pulses, seed production and its inclusion in cropping system for boosting soil fertility. Practical demonstration for skill development and field trip to Agronomy farm of this Institute had tremendously benefitted them as they could see the experimental plots of Zero tillage with Pea, Lentil & Mustard. Film shows were shown helped them to improve their knowledge to take zero tillage on pulses in rice fallows.
The week long training programme has immensely benefitted the farmer folks of this region as all of them were interested to take up pulse crop in their system in the coming season. The programme was successfully completed with an interactive session and also feedback was taken from farmers where they appreciated for conducting such fruitful training programmes. The programme concluded with certificate distribution to the participants.
