Farmers’ Day Organized On Vegetable Production In Mizoram At Phaipheng Village in 15th February, 2017

 

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Mizoram Centre organized farmers’ days on “Vegetable production in Mizoram” under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), organized at Phaiapheng village, Kolasib district on 15th February, 2017. Altogether 120 farmers from Phaiapheng village participated. Dr. Saurav Saha (Scientist, Agricultural Physics) greeted the gathering with a warm welcome note and emphasized the importance of rabi vegetable cultivation in rice fellows to fetch more income for the tribal farmers of Mizoram. Farmers shared their own experience regarding problems and benifits of rabi vegetable cultivation in rice fellows. Mr. Joinal Uddin Majumder shared his experience of earning Rs. 85,000.00 from cultivation of frenchbean, brinjal, cabbage, carrot and broccoli in lowland rice fallow. He is eager to extend his area of cultivation. Mr. P. C. Lalsangkima (Chairman of farmers Association, Phaipheng) thanked ICAR for providing support. A small showcase was made in this occasion where all the vegetables or seed were kept. In this occasion Bhindi Seed (1 kg/each farmer) and cowpea seed (1 kg/ each farmer) has been distributed to grow in the forthcoming pre-kharif season. Finally, Mr.Samik Chowdhury gave formal vote of thanks.
