Training cum awareness programme on Breeding management and artificial insemination in pig under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).
One day training cum awareness programme on “Breeding management and artificial insemination in Pig” was organised by Division Livestock Production, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi on 16th November, 2016 at Mawbrivillage, Ri-Bhoidistrictunder Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). A total of 47 pig farmers were participated in the programme from Mawtneng, Mawbri and Khweng,village. The aim of the programme was to promote the pig breeding and produce piglets, since most of the farmers rearing the pigs for fattening purpose. Therefore the market demand for piglet is very high. This programme was covered on advantage of breeding in term profitability and productivity as compared fattening of the pig. The training imparted to farmers on breeding management and Artificial insemination (AI) in pigs to overcome the major constraint in the traditional pig breeding like high mating cost, poor quality community boar and high pre-weaning mortality of piglets.The programme also explained about Artificial insemination in pigs at farmers’ doorstep through portable mobile AI facilities under TSP.
The programme was started with a brief introductory speech by Dr. R. G. Laha, Principal Scientist. Dr. G. Kadirvel, Principal Scientist and Dr. Sunil Doley, Principal Scientist were imparted the training and deliver the lecture on the breeding management and Artificial insemination (AI) in pigs.
