Three days training programme on “Advance technology in orchard management of subtropical fruit crops’ under NEH Component of ICAR CISH Lucknow

   A three days training programme on “Advance technology in orchard management of subtropical fruit crops’ was organized by Division of System Research & Engineering, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam in collaboration with ICAR Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow under NEH Component during the 25th-27th March, 2021. A total of thirty farmers (30 nos.), from different parts of Khasi hills (08 nos.), Jaintia hills (03 nos.) and Ri-Bhoi (19 nos.) of Meghalaya had successfully participated in the programme. The main objective of the programme was to disseminate the technical know-how on advance techniques of sub-tropical fruit production among farmers. Resource person of different subject expertise emphasized on prospects and scope of subtropical fruits in the northeast India, production technology, canopy management, postharvest & value addition, marketing and integrated diseases & pest management of subtropical fruit crops (citrus, papaya, litchi, banana and guava). In addition to theoretical lecture, trainees were also exposed to practical demonstration on nursery management, orchard layout, training & pruning and plant protection measures in subtropical fruit crops. Discussion and interaction with participants were also held simultaneously which revealed that demonstration and training on advance techniques of subtropical fruits cultivation will help in improving their technicality, profitability and livelihood. During the programme, inputs such as budding and grafting knives (30 nos.) were distributed to trainees. The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. H. Rymbai (Scientist), Dr. H.D. Talang (Scientist), Dr. S.R. Assumi (Scientist), Dr. Vanlalruati (Scientist), Dr. V.K. Verma (Sr. Scientist) and Mr. J. Mawlein (JRF), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
