Training on Scientific Pig and Poultry Production: Avenues for entrepreneurship development in North Eastern Hill Region
Four days “Training on Scientific Pig and Poultry Production: Avenues for entrepreneurship development in North Eastern Hill Region” for tribal farmers of Karbi Anglong of Assam and Wokha, Kohima and Dimapur district of Nagaland was organized on 15th November 2016 to 18th November 2016 by ICAR Nagaland Centre in collaboration with KVK Dimapur at ICAR Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani.
A total of 25 tribal farmers were participated in the training programme. The chief guest of the function, Sarah Jamir, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, Govt. of Nagaland, appreciated the efforts of ICAR Nagaland Centre for promoting the artificial insemination and improved poultry production technology in the state of Nagaland particularly and in North East generally. She informed the house that the state of Nagaland is importing the 40% of animal based products from other states. She further stressed upon adoption of scientific pig rearing to achieve the self sufficiency in pork production and lauded the efforts of ICAR Nagaland Centre in improving the agriculture economy of the Nagaland. The chief guest also distributed the one week old Vanaraja chicks to the participants. Addressing to the participants, The Joint Director of ICAR Nagaland Centre emphasized upon the pig and poultry production on commercial scale in Nagaland by adopting the advanced reproductive technology such as artificial insemination in pig and Vanaraja and Srindji birds in poultry. He further urged the participants for incremental changes in piggery and poultry production system from fattening to breeding based system in pig and layer production in poultry.
