Three days training programme on Nutritional security and livelihood improvement of women farmers through field and horticultural crops

     ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam organized three days training programme on Nutritional security and livelihood improvement of women farmers through field and horticultural crops from 25th -27th March, 2021 at DTAC, ICAR-RC-NEH Region, Umiam under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). A total of 25 women farmers, 13 from Syllei-u-lar Village and 12 from Nongthymmai Village participated the training. The training commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Pampi Paul, Scientist, Agriculture extension and further explained about the nutritional security and the importance of dietary diversity. Dr. Philanim W.S discussed about different pulses that are suitable for NEH region and their nutritional benefits in the daily food basket of the farmers. Further, Dr. Bijoya Bhattacharya expedite on the importance of homestead farming and its relevance to nutritional security to women. Dr. Amit Kumar discussed about the scientific crop cultivation practices of rice and maize. Dr. Heiplanmi Rymbai explained about the importance of horticultural crops in food diversification to the farmers of Meghalaya. The training concluded by Farmers-scientist interaction where the queries of the trainees were cleared and the needs of the farmers were addressed. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Pampi Paul, Dr. Philanim W.S and co-coordinated by Dr. Bijoya Bhattacharya, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Heiplanmi Rymbai and Dr. Uttam Singh at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya.
