Training programme on Scientific banana cultivation technology in Mizoram  

 

A training programme was conducted on 15th March 2018 at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram on “Scientific banana cultivation technology in Mizoram” under Tribal sub plan (TSP). A total of 30 farmers from Thingdawl Farmers Club, Kolasib who are the beneficiaries of banana under the programme  “Integration of Tall Cavendish Banana and mango in Integrated farming system (IFS) in Mizoram” attended the training. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. I Shakuntala, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib followed by a introductory speech regarding the importance of banana and the role of ICAR in improving the livelihood of farmers by her. Dr Sudip Kr. Dutta, Scientist (Horticulture) coordinated the programme and briefed the farmers about the technical session. Lectures in technical session were as following: 1) Soil health management for banana production, Dr Lungmuana, Scientist (Soil Science), 2) Scientific Horticultural practices for increasing banana Production in Mizoram, Dr Sudip Kr Dutta, Scientist (Horticulture), 3) Insect-Pest management in Banana, Dr T. Boopathi, Scientist (Agril. Entomology), 4) Disease management in Banana, Dr A Ratankumar Singh, Scientist (Plant Pathology), 5) Chips making technology from banana, Dr V. Dayal, Scientist (Horticulture).  The farmers were given hands on training about chips making from banana. For the first time, farmers saw banana chips and were interested about the taste of the same. The training was a step forward to develop entrepreneurial skill among the banana growers of the region.
