Signature of MoU between ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam and Ri-Bhoi Mihngi Multi Purpose Co-Operative Society Ltd. on 8th November 2016
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam and Ri-Bhoi Mihngi Multi Purpose Co-Operative Society Ltd. and licensing for seed multiplication of Megha Turmeric-1 on 8th November 2016 in the presence of Shri Sudarshan Bhagat, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. During the event, the hon’ble Minister, in his address, expressed that direct communication between scientists and farmers will yield maximum benefit to the farmers. Sh. Vineet Kumar Verma, Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India and Sh. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, PS to MoS have accompanied the Hon’ble Minister. Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, chaired the event and gave a brief speech on recent achievements and activities of the institute. Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Principal Investigator, Farmers First Programme, introduced the concept of the programme. Dr. B.C. Deka, Director, ATARI, Zone III, also presented a brief remark on the flagship programmes of ATARI ICAR initiative for doubling the income of the farmers. Three representatives of farmers from Ri-Bhoi District shared their opinion about the assistance received from ICAR and showed their appreciation of the successful collaborative undertakings with ICAR. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Satish Chandra, Head, Division of Crop protection. The event was coordinated by Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Nodal officer, ABI and Head, Division of Social Science and attended by all the staffs of ICAR RC for NEH region, Umiam and farmers fromRi-Bhoi District of Meghalaya.
