Successful cultivation of shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) in Arunachal Pradesh
Basar, 01 December:
Shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) had been successfully cultivated in ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, A.P. Centre, Basar. It is an edible mushroom native to East Asia, which is cultivated and consumed in many Asian countries. It is considered as a medicinal mushroom in some forms of traditional medicine. Shiitake mushrooms are now widely cultivated all over the world, and contribute about 25% of total yearly production of mushrooms. Commercially, shiitake mushrooms are typically grown in conditions similar to their natural environment on either artificial substrate or hardwood logs, such as oak.
The pure culture of Lentinula edodes was procured from ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Barapani.Grain spawn was prepared using the standard methodology of Sinden (1962). Spawn was prepared taking paddy grains as basal substrate. Master spawn was prepared first and then subsequent commercial spawn was prepared.
The fruiting bodies of the fungi (fig.1) us Lentinula edodes were harvested from mixed saw dust based substrates. The biological efficacy was 10-14%. An experiment on yield trials were conducted in the natural climatic conditions of Basar; temperature and relative humidity of cropping room ranged between 20 to 25ÂșC and 70 to 80 %, respectively.
