ICAR – NOFRI organized Sankalp Se Siddhi programmme
ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute in collaboration of Krishi Vigyan Kendra –East Sikkim organized Sankalp Se Siddhi – New India Manthan with the objective to double the Farmers income by March 2022 on September 30, 2017. In this important programme, more than 176 farmers and dignitaries from line depts. and various institutions like NABARD and SIMFED etc. participated. The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Shri Somnath Poudyal Hon’ble Minister of FSADD & AHLFVS in the presence of Guest of Honour, Shri P. D. Rai, Hon’ble MP Lok Sabha and Smt. Anjana Lama, General Manager, NABARD, Sikkim and Shri D.K. Bhandari, Director, H&CCDD, Govt of Sikkim, Dr. R. K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong and other dignitaries.
Chief Guest of the inaugural function Shri Somnath Poudyal, Hon’ble Minister of FSADD, HCCDD and AHLFVS, spoke that Govt. of Sikkim is actively adopting the Prime Minister’s vision for doubling the farmers income by 2022. He shared his experiences to achieve the goal of the program and encourage the farming community of Sikkim for atleast enhancing the production and productivity of the vegetable crops. He also appreciated the efforts taken by ICAR-NOFRI in organizing such pertinent program to take the pledge of Honourable Prime Minister of India in front of the farming community. He also spoke about the importance of organic agriculture in improving the health of the people of Sikkim. He exhorted the farmers to extend the knowledge gained from this program to the other fellow farmers. He also appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR-KVK, East Sikkim in the field of soil health management and distributed more than 400 soil health cards to the farmers. He said that talent is the capital of farmer and has to be utilized intensively by the farming community to increase the production and productivity of agriculture which is a labor intensive enterprise.
Shri P.D. Rai, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha-Sikkim) led the Sankalp Se Siddhi pledge to the farming community and other State Govt. Officials, Scientists and SMS. In his address he suggested five points for doubling the farmers’ income and keeping sound soil health. He also requested the farmers to approach various financial institutions to get crops their insured under PMFBY and to get the benefits of PMKSY and other Govt. of India schemes. He linked the soil health with the human health and stressed upon to keeping the soil healthy for wealthy life. He said that organic farming is the only way to sustain the soil health. He appealed to the farming community to opt for Govt. of India schemes for doubling the income by March 2022 which is a dream of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to strengthen the economy of poor farmers. He emphasized that Govt. of Sikkim should focus on increasing the farmers income four times rather doubling the farmers income due to the inherited benefit of organic farming.
Smt Anjana Lama, General Manager, NABARD, Sikkim detailed about the Kisan Credit Card and other Govt.of India schemes for doubling the farmers income.
Shri D.K. Bhandari, Director, HCCDD, Govt. of Sikkim talked about the different schemes of Government of Sikkim which directly benefit for the doubling of the farmers income by March 2022. He urged the farming community to take the benefits and sustained them at the farm level.
Dr. R. K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI welcomed the dignitaries and farming community of Sikkim. In his opening remark, he apprised the dignitaries about the seven point strategies to double farmer’s income by March 2022. He detailed the various works carried out by the ICAR-NOFRI and KVK, East Sikkim for the doubling the farmers income in Sikkim. He also gave brief introduction about the importance of PMFBY, PMKSY, RKVY, MIDH, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav and PMPKVY under changing climate scenario. During the program Agriculture Kisan Film and ICAR-NOFRI research and development activities for doubling the farmer’s income recorded by Doordarshan Kendra, Gangtok was also projected to the farming community.
Later on, Farmers-Scientist-State Officials and Line Departments held active interaction. Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, General Manager, NABARD, Sikkim, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Deupty Director, ATMA, East Sikkim, Scientists of ICAR-NOFRI, SMS of KVK East Sikkim and more than 130 progressive farmers participated in the program. The program was coordinated by Shri S. M. Kandwal, Senior Technical Officer and the program ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Raghavenda Singh, Senior Scientist and Head (I/C) KVK, East Sikkim. Farmers were also exposed to the latest ICAR Research and Development technologies at Research Farm.
