ICAR initiated Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Timpyem village

 

KVK, East Sikkim, ICAR Ranipool initiated Swachh Bharat Abhiyan mission at the village level on the concept of Mahatma Gandhi’s vision “Sanitation is more important than Independence”. As per the mission of the Government of India, this cleanliness program was conducted by KVK East Sikkim, ICAR, Ranipool at Timpyem village of East Sikkim on 29th August 2015 adopted by ICAR. The event was lead by Co-ordinate by Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre. Programme Coordinator (I/c), KVK, East Sikkim along with the KVK staffs and members of SHGs and individual farm women, farmers and village youth.  

The cleanliness program was started with the livestock shed and surroundings for making hygiene to the animals. The foot path and connecting roads were cleaned properly by removing forest litters, grasses and other scattered materials. All the weed biomass was collected and put in to vermin-beds for composting. The other waste materials were sorted out and disposed in degradable and non degradable dustbin for further dispose off. The unwanted garbage removed and waste materials collected and properly dumped in a recognized area of waste in the village. Lichens and algae developments due to heavy rain were brushed out with the help of iron brush from the cemented foot paths and followed by application of lime. The local bamboo baskets were also placed at some particular areas for further collection of waste materials in the village. The villagers and the staffs of the KVK were apprised about the cleanliness dive of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
