KVK AIZAWL, SELESIH organised 3 Days Capacity building programme on Oyster Mushroom Cultivation in collaboration with ICAR RC NEH Region, Mizoram Centre sponsored by ICAR DMR Solan, HP
Three days capacity building programme on “Oyster Mushroom cultivation for socio-economic stability and nutrition security in Mizoram” was organised by ICAR RC NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib 796 081, Mizoram in collaboration with KVK Aizawl, Selesih w.e.f. 22th to 24th March 2018 which was sponsored by ICAR DMR Solan, HP. The Dean, CoVSc & AH, Selesih (CAU) graced the opening ceremony and highlighted the importance of mushroom in socio-economic and nutrition security in Mizoram. Dr Anil Kumar Rao, Scientist, ICAR DMR Solan visiting scientist, visualized the role of DMR and mushroom production in India. He also noted that mushroom consumption in India is very meagre i.e. 30g/head/annum as compared to 300g/head/annum (world scenario). Programme was comprised of audio-video presentation like Scopes of Mushroom in Mizoram (Dr Santosh Mishra, SMS, Horti.), Role of Youth for Mushroom Cultivation (Mr Lalzarzova, Mushroom Grower, Aizawl), SMS composting Technology and its utilization (Mr Lalnunzuala, YP-I) and Oyster Mushroom cultivation in Mizoram (Ms Rebecca, SMS, Plant Protection) and demonstration.
On second day, a training cum demonstration programme organised at KVK farm demonstration unit. Mr Lalnunzuala, YP-1 (Mushroom Production) demonstrate mushroom cultivation in local dialect (Mizo). He also highlighted the scope and need of mushroom cultivation in large scale to cope up huge demand in Mizoram. He emphasised the potential scope of mushroom production in Mizoram due to rich resources and wide availability of agricultural wastes. The technology of mushroom cultivation using dried leaves of wild banana, oil palm, date palm, pine, maize cobs, paddy straw etc has already been standardised by the centre and transferred to the growers. They had shown enthusiastic to take up mushroom and SMS composting production. Leaflet containing information on Mushroom cultivation in local dialect, water tank (100l capacity), water sprayers can, commercial spawn, poly bags, lime, gypsum, rubber bands were distributed to participants. During valedictory function, PC, KVK Aizawl appreciated the initiation taken up by ICAR to popularise mushroom cultivation in Aizawl district. The visiting scientist from ICAR DMR Solan also ensured for lending possible aid from institute and requested to attend the training programme at his institute. Participation certificates were distributed to successfully completed trainees. The programme was considered grand success and concluded by offering vote of thanks given by Dr. A. Ratankumar Singh, PI, AICRP on Mushroom, ICAR RC NEH Region Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram.
