Kishi Vigyan Kendra organizes Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting

 

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Sikkim Centre, Ranipool organized its Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting 2015-16 on 22nd December. The meeting was chaired by the Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre, Tadong. More than 22 numbers of statutory SAC members from different line Departments as NRC Orchid, NABARD, NHB, Doordarshan, Department of Fisheries, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Sikkim and Scientists from ICAR Sikkim Centre attended the meeting.

The Chairman of the programme Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre welcomed the guests and participants. In his welcome address he stressed upon reducing the gap between the research organization developing new technology and its implementation in the farmers field. He also urged the scientific community to work together for producing the organic seeds of different Cole crops in the state. He emphasized that technology being developed must be assessed at farmers’ field to suit the requirements at the different altitudes. The Chairman urged for undertaking simultaneous trials on Red Cherry pepper, in the low cost plastic shed and in open condition wherein their quality parameters should be assessed. Regarding soil health parameters, he suggested that before implementation of any trial analyses of the soil of that particular village should be done on grid basis. The Chairman stressed on quality analysis of value added products of Chow- Chow and ginger.

   

The Programme Coordinator (I/c), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Raghavendra Singh and SAC Member Secretary presented the Action Taken Report of the previous SAC meeting held in 2014, presented the Progress Report of 2015-16 and Action Plan for 2016-17 of KVK, East Sikkim.

Sh. T.P. Bhutia, Additional Director (Horticulture), Govt. of Sikkim suggested that KVK should plan trials on ginger varieties containing higher Oleoresin and ginger oil contents from outside the state.

Sh. D. B. Rai, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Sikkim requested the Scientists of ICAR to devise new technologies for the development of Trout feed in the state in view of aqua culture also being converted to organic system of farming.

All the members gave constructive suggestions for the development and livelihood security for the farming community in the state. Progressive farmer members from different villages of East Sikkim appreciated the efforts of ICAR and KVK, East Sikkim for their enduring efforts for the farming community of the state.

The Chairman of the committee appreciated the work done by the KVK, East Sikkim and called for more close linkages with the line departments to reach the farmers doorstep. In his closing remarks, he strongly advocated upon organic seed production to meet the seed requirement of the state.
