KVK Ri-Bhoi Celebrated International Year of Pulses,2016.
KVK, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR conducted a programme at Kyrdem village on 17th March,2016 in order to mark the International Year of Pulses,2016.The main objectives of the programme was to create awareness about pulse crop among the farming community of this region as pulse productivity is very low in this region and to meet the nutritional requirement of poor farmers particularly protein.
A total of 30 farmers participated in the programme. SMS, SRFs of KVK, Ri-Bhoi took part in the discussion and they were advised to take up more and more pulse crop in their system They were explained about the scientific cultivation methods of pulse crops like Lentil, Pea, Blackgram etc. for improvement of soil fertility which increase income and livelihood. Also queries & doubts were cleared about various scientific cultivation methods like raised & sunken bed of cultivation, zero tillage, organic farming etc.
The programme has created a very good impact among the farming community. Many farmers of the village as well as neighbouring farmers came forward to cultivate pulse crop and were seeking help for supply of inputs for the next year.
