Rabi Vegetable Production Campaign in Basar through Seed distribution and training of farmers
Basar, 6th October, 2015:
Progressive farmers and farm women from Gori-1, Gori-2, Gori-3 and Soi villages assembled in Trainees’ hostel, ICAR research Farm Gori and at the same time farmers of Regi, Pagi and Disi villages assembled in Regi village community hall where farmers were trained to grow winter vegetables in Jhum field, WRC field and kitchen garden to increase the production and productivity of vegetables in Basar area to meet their domestic requirement and to earn extra income by selling the surplus vegetables in Basar local markets. New crops and new techniques of growing True Potato Seed (TPS), Spinach, Tomato, Coriander, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Turnip, Chinese cabbage, Lai Patta, Radish, Pea, mustard, Broccoli, Knol-khol etc. for crop diversification were demonstrated during training to the farmers and seeds were distributed to all participating farmers. Two tems comprised of Scientists in Research Farm Gori lead by Mr. Thejangulie Angami, Scientist (Horti.) and all KVK SMSs i.e. Dr. Rita Nongthombam (Plant Breeding), Dr. K. Suraj Singh (Plant Protection), Mr. Debashis Datta (Agril. Extension) and Mr. Karyom Bam, SRF-NICRA-TDC done the programme in Regi community hall lead by Dr. M.S. Baruah as PC (i/c) of KVK West Siang and both the training programmes were inaugurated by Dr. R. Bhagawati, Joint Director of ICAR-AP Centre, Basar and appealed to all the grower to take care of growing vegetables for both nutritional security and income generation for their livelihood improvement as well as to increase the cropping intensity and total 147 farmers get benefitted from this programme launched through Technology Demonstration Component Under NICRA (KVK) and Tribal Sub Plan of the ICAR Basar Centre.
