KVK, Tura organized Awareness programme on “Promotion of Pulses in Garo Hills” under TSP.
With reference to the above, this is to inform you that The UN General Assembly (UNGA) designated 2016 as the International Year of Pulses (IYP 2016), with the aim of enhancing public awareness of the nutritional and food security benefits of pulses and their contribution to sustainable food production and the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers. To celebrate the occasion, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam has taken up an initiative to create awareness among farmers. In this connection, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR RC for NEH Region is going to organize an awareness programme on “Promotion of pulses in Garo Hills” at Community Hall, Mendal, North Garo Hills on 01.08.2016. . Shri D. D. Sangma, Addition Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills was the chief guest of the programme. Staffs of KVK and officers from various line department including 131 nos. of farmers from different villages of North Garo Hills participated in the programme. Dr Tanmay Samajdar, Programme Coordinator, KVK welcome all the guest and the farmers and briefed about the importance of pulse cultivation in Garo Hills. He emphasized on cultivation of green gram in pre kharif season and black gram & lentil in Rabi season. The chief guest was grateful to KVK for organizing such kind of programme in the district and assured all kind helps and support in future. He also requested the KVK to organize such awareness programmes in other parts of the district.
Shri A. S. Singh, SMS (Horticulture) emphasized on the importance of pulses in our day to day life. Shri Tarun. Kr. Das, SMS (Agril Exten.) and Mr. N. A. K. Singh, SMS (SWCE) spoke about the cultivation techniques of different types of pulses. At the end of the programme, the farmers came forward and requested the KVK to organize demonstration on pulses in coming Rabi Season. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. Rocky R. Marak, the President of Bajengdoba Service Coopeartive Society.
