Rabi campaign organized under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), at Bilkhawthlir, Kolasib district on 8th November 2016
ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Mizoram Centre organized two training programmes on “Promoting rabi vegetable cultivation to increase the net cropping intensity in wetland rice fallows of Mizoram” under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), organized at Bilkhawthlir, Kolasib district on 8th November, 2016. Pu. Malsawma (Village Council President-VCP, Bilkhawthir), Dr. Saurav Saha (Scientist, Agricultural Physics), Dr. Lungmuana (Scientist, Soil Science), Mr. Samik Chowdhury (Technical Officer, GKMS) and Mr. P. Lalhmachhuana (Junior Research Fellow, NMSHE) attended the programme. Dr. Saurav Saha (Scientist, Agricultural Physics) greeted the gathering with a warm welcome note and emphasized the importance of rabi vegetable cultivation in rice fellows to fetch more income for the tribal farmers of Mizoram. Dr. Lungmuana, Scientist (Soil Science) accentuated importance and techniques of boron application in acid soils to grow cole crops and nursery preparation. Pu. Malsawma highlighted the importance of subsistence vegetable cultivation to give additional income for the tribal farmers for their daily livelihood improvement. He also emphasized more scientist- farmer’s interaction will required for better implementing this technology with complete monitoring of scientist. Mr. Samik Chowdhury (Technical Officer, GKMS) accented the role of weather based agro advisory services to increase farming resiliency of the farmers and collected 40 mobile numbers to incorporate in mkisan portal. 40 seed kits (20 g cabbage, 20g tomato, 50 g onion, 10 g cauliflower, 20 g brinjal, 20 g broccoli, 20 g knolkhol, 50 g carrot, 20 g raddish and 50 g beet root) along with 0.5 kg borax were distributed to farmer participants. Finally, Mr.Samik Chowdhury gave formal vote of thanks. After lunch, techniques of vegetable nursery preparation were demonstrated in the farmers’ field.
