Pre-Kharif Kisan Sammellan organised at Tura.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra,West Garo Hills organised Pre Kharif Kisan Sammelan on 3rd March, 2017 at the KVK campus. Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya graced the occassion as Chief Guest. Prof. A. Chaturvedi, Dean, College of Home Science, Dr. R. Bordoloi, Principal Scientist, ATARI, ICAR, Umiam, Shri C.R. Marak, DHO, West Garo Hills and officers from various line departments were also present during the programme. 172 nos. of farmers from five districts of Garo Hills participated in the programme. Dr. Tanmay Samajdar, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK welcome all the dignitaries as well as the farmers and briefed about the aim and objectives of the programme. Dr. Ngachan urged the farmer to go for integrated farming system and value addition of local products and reminded the KVK as well as the line departments about the dream of Hon’ble Prime Minister to double the income of Indian farmers. He emphasised on convergence of all the departments for initiating actions to fulfil the dream of the Prime Minister. Prof. A. Chaturvedi requested the farmers to participate in the training programmes on post harvest and value addition organised by the college every year. During the programme, seeds of maize, upland rice, vegetable as well pheromone traps and poultry chicks were distributed to the farmers as a part of Jhum improvement programme. The scientists of KVK discussed about the cultivation of different crops in pre kharif and kharif seasons as well as scientific livestock farming. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Ms. J. Mahanta.
