Three days training programme on Postharvest management and value addition in Jackfruit
A training programme on “Postharvest management and value addition in jackfruit” was organized for three days under Tribal Sub Plan, in the Division of Horticulture, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam during 29th to 31st August, 2017. The programme was aimed to impart hands on training on processing of jackfruit through proper postharvest management and value addition. About 17 trainees from jackfruit growing belt of Mawkynrew block and Pynursla block of Meghalaya participated in the programme. During the training programme, the trainees were sensitized on the scope of commercial cultivation of jackfruit in Meghalaya for income generation, various aspects of production technology and its health benefits with respect to phytochemical and pharmacological properties. Hands on practical demonstration were conducted on processing of mature and ripened jackfruit bulbs to chips, ready-to-cook pieces, leather, beverages and jam. The trainees were benefited much from the practical sessions especially to a few of them who are already into jackfruit value addition business and they showed interest for specialized training in the future. The training was coordinated by Drs. SR Assumi, MB Devi, HD Talang, BK Sethy and AK Jha.
