Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, 2016 organized by KVK, West Garo Hills District, Tura, Meghalaya

 

One day Farmer’s fair on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, PMFBY) was organized by KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills on 5th April, 2016 for the local farmers of Garo Hills at KVK, Tura campus. Shri Noverfield R. Marak, MLA, North Tura was the Chief Guest of the programme. A total number of 283 farmers from 15 villages of West Garo Hills, 8 villages of South West Garo Hills, 2 villages of South Garo Hills and 1 villages of East Garo Hills districts participated in the programme. In the inaugural programme, Dr. Tanmay Samajdar, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Tura welcome the participants and local farmers with brief introduction and objective of PMFBY. He stressed upon the uncertainties in monsoon for which farmers feel insecure and suffer a lot due to crop damage/ failure. Therefore, he requested the farmers to take the benefit of Fasal Bima Yojana (crop insurance) so as to protect from crop losses. Shri Bhupen Hajong, Executive Member, GHADC, Meghalaya in his short speech requested the farmers to take the benefit of PMFBY and also emphasized all the line departments and KVK to cooperate with the local farmers in adopting the new technologies for their livelihood improvement. Shri Amol Bhalerao, Scientist, ATARI-III, Umiam, Meghalaya expressed his appreciation to the farmers for participating in the programme. He also praised KVK, Tura for their efforts in disseminating the latest technologies to the farmers of Garo Hills. Dr. Puspita Das, Dean, College of Home Science, Tura advised the farmers to think about long term needs for their benefit, self-satisfaction and mental peace. She also stressed upon the scope, benefits and prospects of PMFBY to avoid suicidal cases of farmers in the country. Shri Noverfield R. Marak, MLA, North Tura, the Chief Guest of the programme, emphasized on sudden instances of natural calamities and adverse weather conditions affecting mostly the farmers. He told that farmers need protection from crop losses and requested farmers to insure their crops through PMFBY. He appreciated KVK, Tura for organizing such type of programme for the farmers of Garo Hills. A Scientist Farmers Interaction was also held, where the objectives, terms and conditions of PMFBY were discussed along with the production technology of upcoming pre kharif maize cultivation. Maize seeds were distributed to few farmers for pre kharif cultivation. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Mr. A.S.Singh, SMS (Horticulture), KVK, Tura.
