Training on ‘Protected cultivation of High Value crops’ held

Hilly areas usually face the problem of low temperature during winters and heavy rainfall during summers, often making the crop production rather impossible. In these areas, horticultural activities are usually confined to only short summer seasons of around 4-5 months. Hence to overcome such constraints, the farmers were acquaint with a new technique i.e. ‘Protected cultivation’.

A one day long training programme on ‘Protected cultivation of high value crops’ was organized by ICAR, KVK Anjaw at Tafraliang village, Anjaw district on 25th July 2017. Altogether 34 farmers (both men and women) attended the training programme. The Course Co-ordinator Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS Horticulture aware the farmers about the concept of protected cultivation and its importance. She gave a detail power point presentation on different types of protected structures emphasizing on low cost poly-houses, explaining the exotic & high value crops and its cultivation techniques. Hence, she encouraged the farmers (esp. rural youths) to take up this venture to produce year round production of vegetable crops and adopt it as an alternative means of income generation.
