Group meeting of All India Coordinated Project on Citrus organized at NRCC
National Research Centre for Citrus (NRCC) organized group meeting of researchers working under All India Coordinated Project on Citrus during 2-3 September, 2014 at NRCC, Nagpur.
Dr. T. Jankiraman, ADG (Hort.Sci.), ICAR, in his inaugural address stressed on need to bring out status paper and a roadmap on citrus development. He said that every year this meeting will be organized for midterm review and NRCC will be able to have close linkage with all the Centres with respect to technical and general administrative control.
Dr. M. S. Ladaniya, Director, NRCC and Coordinator for Citrus welcomed the participants and informed about the major researchable issues while stressing need to developing crop specific region-based cultivation technologies under given changing scenario of agro – climatic conditions and constraints of inputs.
Technical sessions on germplasm management and varietal improvement, planting density, propagation and root-stocks, plant nutrition, water management, weed control, orchard management, growth and development and pest and diseases management were conducted.
NRCC will be the coordinating Centre for Citrus research work in All India Coordinated Project on Fruits after the Citrus Coordinated work is shifted from IIHR. There are total 10 centres working on citrus in different states of the country which will be coordinated from NRCC, Nagpur. Total 42 researchers from various centres and 5 experts deliberated on various issues concerning citrus cultivation in different parts of the country.
The meeting was attended by citrus research workers from Kinnow growing belt of Punjab and Rajasthan, Nagpur orange growing belt of Vidarbha, Mosambi and acid lime growing belt of Rahuri (Ahmednagar), Sathgudi orange and acid lime growing belt of (Tirupati) Andhra Pradesh, Coorg mandarin growing belt of Kadagu district of Karnataka, acid lime belt of Periyakulam, Khasi mandarin belt of Assam (Tinsukia) and Arunachal Pradesh (Pasighat).
