Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India visited ICAR Sikkim Centre Stall at Saramsa Garden, Sikkim.
Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India inaugurated Sikkim Organic Festival 2016 at Saramsa Gardens, East Sikkim on 19 January 2016. Local organic agriculture and horticulture produce were displayed by the farmers from all over Sikkim. There were total 77 exhibition stalls in the Sikkim Organic Festival. Hon’ble Prime Minister visited all the stalls and interacted with progressive farmers and young entrepreneurs. Hon’ble Prime Minister also visited ICAR Sikkim Centre stall and Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya and Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre warmly greeted him and Joint Director, ICAR Sikkim Centre briefed Hon’ble Prime Minister about the low cost farmer friendly technologies developed by the Centre and rapid dissemination to the farmers under Skill Development and Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav programs. Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil; Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Pawan Chamling, Shri Somnath Poudyal, Hon’ble Minister, FS&ADD and HCCDD, Govt. of Sikkim and Shri A.K. Srivastava, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim were also present on the occasion. ICAR Sikkim Centre stall displayed models of various technologies viz. integrated organic farming system,low cost plastic tunnels, low cost plastic rain shelters, low cost greenhouse, low cost mushroom house and low cost pig shelter under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav and Skill Development theme; traditional land races of Sikkim under Paramparagat Krishi; and latest organic crop production technologies publications under Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan theme.
On 18 January 2016 during the “National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Farmers Welfare” at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India also releases a book “Transforming Rural Sikkim: Year Round Organic Crop Production” edited by R.K. Avasthe, Yashoda Pradhan and Khorlo Bhutia. The book was jointly published by Sikkim Organic Mission, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok.
