Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh Inaugurated Fish Farmer’s Meet at Muzaffarpur

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated Fish Farmer’s Meet today at ICAR-National Research Centre for Litchi, Muzaffarpur. The event was organized by ICAR-Central Institute on Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Mumbai in coordination of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad and Fisheries Resources Department, Govt. of Bihar.
Minister in his address highlighted the vision of Govt. of India for overall development of agriculture in the country with special reference to resource rich state like Bihar. He stressed that effective and timely implementation of the schemes and larger participation of farmers can bring the prosperity in the state. Shri Singh mentioned of Fisheries development in the mound, chaurs, rivers and other water bodies in Bihar in collaboration with NFDB and State Fisheries Department to bridge the huge gap of fish production. He also spoke about various schemes of Govt. of India for development of Fishermen communities like, “Machhuara Adarsh Gram, Machhuara Beema, Machhuara Prashikshan and common Centre for fisheries input.
Minister expressed hope for fulfilling the dream of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for Blue Revolution (Matasya Kranti) from this part of the Country. He released the fingerlings of “Jayanti Rohu” at NRCL fish pond and appreciated the approach of litchi based IFS model being developed at the Centre.
The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. Gopalji Trivedi, former Vice Chancellor, Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur. Dr. W.S. Lakra Vice Chancellor, CIFE, Mumbai informed the farmers about the benefit of fish farming and objective of organising such mega-event to make the fisherman community aware about its benefits. Dr. Vishal Nath, Director, NRCL welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries and farmers and gave brief information about litchi bases fish cum duck farming. Dr. Nishat Ahamd, Director, Fisheries Resources, Govt. of Bihar informed the farmers about various follow up schemes for fishery development in Bihar whereas Dr. S.C. Rai, Principal Scientist, College of fisheries informed about the fisheries education in the state.
A farmer-scientist interaction session was also organized at this occasion where the representative from NFDB, CIFE, Fish Resource Department, ICAR-RCER, Patna and College of Fisheries answered the queries of farmers.
About 1500 farmers from three Commissionaires comprising of 13 district of Bihar participated in the Meet.
