Mushroom Day

Mushroom day was celebrated at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Umiam, Meghalaya on 23.12.2020 under AICRP on Mushroom Project. The theme of the mushroom day was “Mushroom as Immunity booster”. Farmers, entrepreneurs and all other participants were apprised by Dr. Pankaj Baiswar (PI, AICRP on Mushroom) about the medicinal properties of the mushroom and how the compounds present in mushroom help in boosting our immunity. Information regarding anticancerous properties of mushrooms and also about Vitamin D enriched mushroom was shared with the participants. He also apprised the participants regarding beneficial effects of selenium. After the lecture a demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation was also conducted and all the participants also visited the low cost mushroom house at Plant pathology field, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region. Khasi technical bulletin related to Mushroom cultivation and spawn production “Ka jingrep tit bad ka rukum pynmih symbai tit” was also distributed to the selected participants. A session on interaction with farmers was also conducted to answer the queries of the farmers related to mushroom cultivation. Participants were from Lalumpan, Nalapara, Mawphrew, Maranger village cluster, and few from Shillong area. Scientists and other staff members from ICAR RC for NEH Region were also present during the programme. Mushroom day was coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Baiswar, Dr. A. Ratankumar Singh, Dr. Meena Das and Dr. H. Rymbai.
