Demonstration cum Distribution of Planting Materials of Citrus Mawthei Village under NMSHE-TF6

 

A field demonstration was conducted on 8th June 2017 in Mawthei village under National Mission for Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem -TF6, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam. The programme was conducted to disseminate technical knowhow on layout and establishment of Khasi mandarin and Assam lemon orchards. About 16 interested farmers of Mawthei attended the programme. The farmers were exposed to both theory and hands on demonstration of orchard layout, pit digging, planting and other operations requires for establishment of Khasi Mandarin and Assam lemon orchards. During the discussion and interaction, it was revealed by the farmers have no experience about the planned orchards. They have also never practice any planned activities in orchards. Therefore Feedback from the participants has shown that such activities will help in improving their livelihood. About 1000 nos. of assam lemon cutting and 500 nos. of Khasi mandarin planting materials were distributed to the selected and identified farmers. The participants have shown great enthusiasm and request for further interaction in future. The programme was coordinated by Dr. H. Rymbai, Dr. Anup Das, Dr. Subash Babu, Dr. Batriti Nongbri, Mr. Iooniwanhi Law, Mr. Teibanbiang Nongkseh and Mr. Wilfred Lawai.
