ICAR-DSR celebrates its Foundation Day
ICAR-Directorate of Seed Research, Mau celebrated its Foundation Day here today. Awareness-cum- training programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights for farmers of nearby villages was organised on the occasion.
Dr. R.K. Chowdhury founder O.S.D. and former Coordinator of National Seed Project delivered the Foundation Day lecture. He stressed upon the need for further enhancing the production of quality seed among various crops. A progressive farmer Shri Chandra Shekhar Singh, who has made significant contributions in varietal development and conservation of land races, was felicitated in the ceremony.
Chief guest of the function, Dr. R. C. Agarwal, Registrar General, PPV &FRA, New Delhi highlighted the importance of conservation of land races and presented a glimpse of activities being carried out by the authority.
Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Coordinator, ICAR-DSR in his presidential address presented the progress country has made in safeguarding the food security through ensured supply of quality seeds among field and horticultural crops. He also highlighted the technologies developed by the directorate, in particular the work being carried out for farmers of Eastern U.P. and other adjoining areas.
The foundation day programme, in addition to a good number of farmers, was also attended by scientists, officers and employees of both ICAR-DSR and ICAR-NBAIM, Mau.
