“Meat on Wheels” was flagged-off during World Food Day at NRC on Meat

National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad celebrated the World Food Day on 16th October, 2014. Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, acted as chief-guest and Dr. Y. Thirupathaiah, Additional Director, Dept. A.H., Govt. Telangana and Shri. Mohd. Abdul Majeed, President of Hyderabad Haleem Association and MD, PISTA House, Hyderabad acted as guest-of honors. Dr. T.R.K. Murthy, Former OSD, NRC on Meat, Dr. V. Kesava Rao, Former President, IMSA, Dr. A.S.R. Anjaneyulu, Former Emeritus scientist, NRC on Meat and scientists from several ICAR Institutes, students, entrepreneurs, representatives from NGO, and all the staff of NRC on Meat have participated in the event. Dr. G. Venugopal, Principal Scientist welcomed the guests. Dr. V.V. Kulkarni, Director NRC on Meat in his presidential address mentioned about the importance of World Food day nutritional security and role of NRC on Meat in value addition and clean meat production.
During the program a brochure on “Detection of meat and animal fat adulteration” and video CD of NRC on Meat in Telugu version were released. On this occasion Director, NRC Meat has also received the ISO 9001:2008 certificate from Mr. Durga Prasad, Indian Register Quality Systems, Mumbai. Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Dr. Y. Thirupathaiah and Shri. Mohd. Abdul Majeed also spoke about the importance of meat and meat products in ensuring nutritional security. During the program Dr. R.N. Chatterjee and Dr. Y. Thirupathaiah flagged-off the newly designed “Meat on Wheels” vehicle for promotion and popularization of value addition, meat processing and clean meat production among consumers and meat processors. The vehicle was designed under the project “Awareness on clean meat production and value addition” sanctioned from Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Government of Telangana under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) scheme 2013-14. Various value added meat products were served among the participants. The program was concluded with vote-of- thanks proposed by Dr. M. Muthukumar.
