Training Programme organized at Wahlang village, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya by Group-III of ‘Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav’ Programme.
Three days training programme for improvement of livelihood of tribal farmers through agricultural interventions was organized under MGMG programme (by Group-III) of ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam on 14th, 15th and 16th March’2016 under the leadership of group leader Dr. S. Hazarika, funded by Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). A field demonstration programme on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices for cultivation of potato was given by Dr. S. Hazarika, Principal Scientist (Soil) and Dr. B. C. Verma, Scientist (Soil). During the programme, 20 farmers participated and technology related to lime application, organic manure applications, sowing of potato tubers as well as fertilizers application were demonstrated to the farmers. Inputs viz. potato (seed) tubers (1000 kg), fertilizers (Urea, SSP and MOP) and lime were distributed among the farmers. Dr. H. Rymbai, Scientist has given training to 40 nos. of trainees on scientific and improved cultivation of vegetables. Inputs in the form of improved seeds of cabbage, cauliflower, coriander, peas, radish, lettuce etc were distributed to them. To promote backyard poultry farming with improved breeds, Dr. Meena Das, Scientist has given training to 30 nos. of trainees. Three hundred Kuroiler chicks, veterinary medicines such as deworming drugs, vitamins and mineral supplements were distributed among them. Extension folders in Khasi language entitled ‘Backyard Poultry Farming’ and ‘Common Important Poultry Diseases and its Control’ were also distributed to the trainees. Farmers were made aware of different parasitic diseases as well as other aspects of poultry health management. Dr. Pankaj Baiswar, Senior Scientist has given training to 24 nos. of farmers on oyster mushroom cultivation and explained the detail procedures and techniques for cultivation of the same.
