Training cum Awareness Programme and input distribution was held at Mawbsein village under Mera Goan Mera Gaurav

 

To commemorate the visionary programme of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India “MeraGaonMeraGaurav” (My village, My pride), a day long Training cum Awareness Programme was held at Mawbsein village by the scientists of  ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The programme was coordinated by Group No: II of the MGMG which comprises, Dr.G. T. Behere Senior Scientist (Entomology), Dr.Samir Das Scientist(Veterinary and Public Health), Dr.Aniruddha Roy Scientist (Agril Economics),Dr.R. Krishnappa Scientist (Agronomy) of ICAR Complex, Umiam under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).

The programme was held in Mawbsein village in the Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya wherefarmers from the three villages Mawblang, Mawkyrdep and Nongpyrdetalso participated in the programme.

A total of 50 representative farmers from the four villages of Ri- Bhoi District of Meghalaya participated in the programme. The day long training elaborated on sustainable practice of agriculture and livelihood improvement. The programme started with the welcome address by the Group leader Dr. G. T. Behere, ICAR Research Complex, Umiam. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the need of improved crop production and protection techniques and also the role of livestock based integrated farming system in the region. Dr Samir Das gave the lecture and explained the importance of animal diseases in livestock and its management. The scheme of Pradhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojana was also explained by Dr Aniruddha Roy to the farmers so that they could get maximum output from the scheme as the region is witnessing heavy hail storms. Dr R. Krshnappa, provided the information on crop production techniques and role of biofertilizer and micronutrients for increasing the cop yield.

Inputs were provided to the farmers for sowing in the Rabi season.  Seeds of vegetables, maize, bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, Knapsack sprayer and vermin-compost were distributed among the farmers of the four villages.Fruit fly trapping kits developed by ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, were also distributed for management and monitoring of fruits flies on fruits and vegetable crops. Fruit flies are one of the, major pests of fruits and vegetable crops in the North East India. They damage the fruits and make them unmarketable and unfit for human consumption.

A scientists and farmer’s interaction was a major part of the programme where the queries of the farmers were answered by the scientists.The training assured that the farmers get the best out of it and the institute will provide with every possible help to popularize the Agriculture and allied activities in NEH region.  Famers were very happy by receiving the inputs and information on new technologies.
