Training and technology demonstration programme organized at Margnar under MGMG
A training cum awareness programme and technology demonstration was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya at Sarikuchi, Margnar Block, Nongpoh on 28 March, 2016. More than 100 Farmers from five villages namely Umthaw, Sarikuchi, Nongagang, and Pahamrngi attended the programme. A team of scientists from ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya led by Dr. AK Tripathi, Principal Scientist and Head, Social Science organized the event under ICARs visionary programme ‘Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav’ or ‘My Village My Pride’. Dr. Prabha Moirangthem, Scientist, Soil Science coordinated the programme. Dr. Anup Das, Senior Scientist, Agronomy and Dr. Sandip Ghatak, Scientist, Animal Health interacted with the farmers on improved crop production practices and livestock health management. Headmans, secretaries, members and women participated in large number from five villages of Margnar, Block. Improve piglets, pig and poultry feeds, mineral mixtures were distributed among farmers to improve income from livestock farming. Seeds of cereals (Rice, maize), vegetables (Frenchbean, carrot, beet root, okra, cucumber etc.), ginger along with bio-fertilizers were also distributed among farmers to enhance income of farmers. Small farm tools and implements such as electric pump, rose can, sprayers etc. also distributed among farmers for enhancing working efficiency. Dr. Tripathi gave a detail account about the MGMG goals and need for enhancing participatory approach to alleviate poverty and improve food and nutritional security among farming community. The programme was funded under Tribal Sub Plan by the Institute. Already two similar programme has been organized for the village. Scientists and team members regularly visiting the village and interacting with farmers on various issues. Regular field visits and exposure programme under also organized for the villagers.
