Field day on “Soil Amelioration through Liming in Maize (Var. RCM 1-3)”
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organised a Field day at Kyrdem village of Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya on 21st November, 2016 on “soil amelioration through liming in maize (Var. RCM 1-3) to enhance productivity”. The objective of the programme was to popularize and showcase the technology of application of Lime @ 500 kg/ha in furrow method on maize to ameliorate the soil for higher productivity. The ‘Field Day’ was organised at the field of Mr. C. Shadap of Kyrdem Village. A total of 36 numbers of farmers, farm women and rural youth participated in the programme from the village and nearby villages. The farmers were very happy with the performance of demonstrated plot of maize crop as compare to the control plot in the same locality. The farmers are expected to harvest more yield from the demonstration plot (40-45 q/ha) as compared to the traditional method of cultivation (20-25 q/ha). Many farmers express their willingness to adopt the technology at their field in the next season.
