Training on ‘Scientific cultivation of large cardamom’ held
A one day long training programme on ‘Scientific cultivation of large cardamom’ was organized by ICAR, KVK Anjaw at Kongra village, situated at 2850 ft. 28˚4’7”N, 96˚34’19”E in Anjaw district on 07th August 2017. The team of KVK officials reached the village after climbing the mountain for around one hour as the village stills doesn’t own any road connectivity. Although after reaching the village, the pain undertaken was worthy after viewing the village’s breathe taking scenic beauty. A total of 30 farmers (both men and women) attended the training programme. The participants were welcomed by Dr. Senpon Ngomle, SMS Plant Protection and briefed the gathering about the importance of organizing this training. The Course Coordinator Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS Horticulture had an interactive discussion with the farmers about their problems and queries regarding Large cardamom cultivation. Most of the farmers complained about the infestation of viral disease ‘Foorkey’, sun scorching and some cases of blight. To mitigate their problems, she delivered a lecture through power point presentation on its scientific cultivation and preventive measures to be taken. For better understanding, some audiovisual clippings were also showed.
Smti. Sushila Tawsik, a progressive farmer, interpreted the training programme in the local dialect ‘Digaru Mishmi’ for easy dispersal of information and thanked the KVK officials for their constant efforts. At the end of the programme, organic insecticide and pesticide were distributed to the trainees.
