Kisan Goshthi-cum-Exhibition Organised.

Indian Institute of Farming System IIFSR, Modipuram organised a Kisan Goshthi-cum- Exhibition in association with Directorate of Water Management, Bhubaneswar in Rasulpur Jattan village of Muzzafarnagar on 13 December 2014. The main theme of programme was “Efficient water management for higher sugarcane productivity”.
The Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Alok K. SIkka, DDG (NRM), ICAR emphasized that Muzaffarnagar district is known as Sugar Bowl of India and well known for its agricultural prosperity. However, the water management is poor and ground water use in the district is high. Water level is going down at high speed. It is very alarming that 4 blocks (out of 9 blocks) of district are in dark zone. He emphasised on the judicious use of water and farmers should come forward to adopt advance technologies of water management for improving sugarcane productivity.
Dr. B. Gangwar, Director, IIFSR welcomed all the dignitaries and farmers and elaborated the purpose of the meeting. He also explained different IFS models developed by IIFSR for higher income and livelihood sustainability.
Dr. Surender Pal Singh, Guest of Honour; Dr. R C Srivastava, Director, DWM, Bhubaneswar; Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, CSWRTI, Dheradun; and Dr. Brham Parkash, Director, CIRC, Meerut also interacted with the farmers.
During the programme, an agricultural exhibition was organised to demonstrate the modern technologies which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest. Live demonstration of machines and other irrigation equipments were the major highlights of the exhibition. A farmer-scientist interaction session was also organised.
Dr. Prem Singh, Pri. Scientist (IIFSR) & Coordinator of Kisan Goshthi anchored the programme and Dr. P. K. Singh from KVK, Muzaffarnagar presented the vote of thanks.
More than 600 farmers from different blocks and districts participated in the programme.
