Kharif Kisan Sammelan 2015 by KVK, West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya
A Kharif Kisan Sammelan was inaugurated by Shri Zenith M. Sangma, Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Housing, Excise, Sericulture & Weaving, Government of Meghalaya in presence of Shri Ram Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Meghalaya and officials from different line departments, NGO’s on 18th August, 2015 at Garagre Village, Zikzak block of South West Garo Hills district. The programme was organized by KVK, ICAR, Tura under the sponsorship of Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. A total 511 numbers of farmers from 12 villages of the district were participated in the programme. Shri A.S. Singh, Programme Coordinator (i/c), KVK, Tura welcome the dignitaries and participants with brief introduction for the purpose of organizing Kharif Kisan Sammelan. He emphasized for adoption of various modern technologies suitable for hilly areas which was introduced and demonstrated by KVK, ICAR at different parts of Garo Hill Districts. He further stressed on importance of creating awareness among the farmers on developed locally specific latest technologies and acquainting about effect of climate change on various crops for sustainable farming systems of the district. The Guest of Honour, Shri Ram Singh, informed the farmers to share their problems and difficulties in farming sector during Kharif season and requested to take the benefit of the presence of KVK scientific staffs in Garo Hills. Fr. Sunny Joseph Mavelil, Director, BAKDIL(NGO), Tura expressed on application of various suitable interventions for Kharif season and request the farmers to gain more knowledge regarding their livelihood improvement and empowerment through farming system technologies from KVK. Shri Zenith M. Sangma, the Chief Guest of the programme encouraged the farmers to take the opportunity of different schemes newly introduced by Government of Meghalaya in the region viz. livestock mission, aquaculture mission, apiculture under Integrated Basin Development Programme etc. He also praised the KVK, Tura for their efforts in disseminating the latest technologies to the farmers of Garo Hills for improvement of livelihood for farming community.The programme was ended with an interaction between KVK experts and the participants.
