KVK Ri Bhoi Celebrated World Environment Day 2018
To commemorate the world environment day on 5th June, 2018 KVK Ri Bhoi under the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region celebrated the World Environment Day at additional NICRA village of Sohriewblei Lower Primary School near Kyrdem. Almost about 35 school students gathered on the occasion along with few farmers of Sohriewblei village and took a pledge for a greener environment. Welcoming the dignitaries and the farmers; Mr. P. D. Wanbah (Headman, Sohriewblei) gave a brief account of the various activities that are presently going on in the village under NICRA Project and spoke about the importance of the World Environment Day Celebration. Mrs. Dontilang Masynting (Headmistress, Sohriewblei L. P. School) thanked KVK, Ri Bhoi for organizing such an important event in their village which has organized for the first time in Sohriewblei village. They also lauded the continuous efforts of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ri-Bhoi in supporting the farmers with various need based interventions on Integrated Farming System, animal husbandry, fishery, agronomy, horticulture, home science etc. Mrs. Valarie Maring (Secretary, VCRMC) appreciated the initiative taken by the KVK, Ri Bhoi for organising the World Environment Day as this will generate awareness among the villagers and will motivate the students as well to contribute in little ways such as tree planting. Dr. Utpal Barua SMS (Horticulture), KVK, Ri Bhoi in his speech emphasised that the day is an important one as most of us need awareness on the balance of soil, water and air which is possible to achieve only through a pollution free environment. He also requested the farmers & Students that planting of trees should be a continuous process and we should not wait for a particular day. He suggested that this kind of programmes should be organised more often in future also. Mrs. Eliza Syiemlieh SMS (Home Science), KVK, Ri Bhoi expressed her happiness for the participation of the students. She also advised the youth to take up activities which will help in protecting natural environment. She requested the farmers that more and more farmers should adopt technologies which have been provided under NICRA as they are directly connected to the changing climatic conditions. She explained in brief about the Environment to the farmers. Dr. Popiha Bordoloi SMS (Soil Science), Mr. Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS (Fishery) & Mr. Samir Medhi SRF (NICRA) were also present. The Programme ended with planting of saplings by the dignitaries, farmers and students, where a large number (more than 100) of trees were planted which have medicinal and cosmetic value
