ICAR and KVK Basar conducted Day Long Discussion with farmersat Old Daring
Basar, 25th Aug.,2014 : A team comprising of Shri A. Kirankumar Singh, i/c Programme Coordinator, Dr. Anup Chandra, Scientist (Entomology), Shri Tinkonjit Taye, SRF (NICRA) and Shri Bommo Basar, Technician (T-1) conducted a day long discussion with the farmers of Old Daring, West Siang district today, the 25th Aug.,2014. The team visited the village in connection with the expansion of TDC-NICRA project area and surveyed the village thoroughly. The farmers who participated in the discussion interacted with the team in detail about the impact of Climate Changes on crops and livestocks in the village. One of the Gaon Burahs expressed his experience with the team regarding the decrease in production and producivity of khamti rice during the last 20-25 years. The team members suggested to replace the particular khamti variety with the new improved and high yielding medium duration variety which is suitable in the area in community wise or compact area keeping in view the problems of damage by birds due to early ripening compared to long duration variety khamti in order to fit the rabi crop in the area. The team also discussed in details about the different farming systems which can adopted for improving the jhum cultivation and soil and fertility management in WRC fields. Some of the farmers participated the discussion with plant samples from the field infested by insect pests and disease for on the spot remedial measures. Lastly, Shri A. Kirankumar Singh expressed the gathering to help them with possible technical guidance and logistic support through TDC-NICRA project and requested them to support with sincerity and dedication in the farming activities.
