KVK West Siang conducted Field visit
A field visit was conducted by a team of KVK West Siang experts comprised of Dr. Kangabam Suraj Singh (SMS-PP) and Mrs. Deepa Lal (SMS-Horti) at Gori II village and Sire Rigo Village in Mr. Kenmar Basar’s banana Farm and Polyhouse on 2nd June, 2016. The team visited farmers growing banana and other vegetable crops in Polyhouse. Diseases such as BBTV, Leaf spot disease, leaf scarring beetles and banana corm weevil were identified in banana. In polyhouse many diseases were found viz., virus infection in king chilli, bacterial wilt in capsicum (preliminary oozing test was demonstrated in the front of farmers) and early blight in tomato. The concerned SMS advised the use of proper management of above diseases and maintain weed free crop. He recommended integrated disease and pest management practices and use of recommended dose of chemicals with necessary precaution measures while handling and spraying of insecticides and fungicides. Mrs. Deepal Lal suggested to follow the package and practices of vegetable crops under protected farming system in polyhouse. She also visited and inspected in kitchen garden where the spacing in bottle gourd, bitter gourd, pumpkin, sponge gourd and cucumber growing were not maintained. So, she advised to maintain proper spacing for kharif season vegetable crops.
