International Women’s Day 8th March 2021 Celebration at KVK-RiBhoi
“Theme : Women Leadership in agriculture: Entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment”
A programme was organized by KVK-Ri-Bhoi ICAR, RC for NEH Region Umiam, Meghalaya on “International Women’s Day Celebration” on the 8th of March 2021 to mark the importance of women in the region that was attended by 30 numbers of women entrepreneur from 11 SHGs’ of RiBhoi district. The programme started with the welcome address delivered by the Principal Scientist and Head of KVK-RiBhoi who enlightened and highlighted the different roles played by women. Followed by attending the online virtual inaugural session of ICAR Headquarter, there after followed by felicitation of the Women Entrepreneurs Smt. Dlesgracia Sten for her achievement in food value addition and processing along with Smt. Rose Mary Khongrymmai for her achievement in processing and rural craft. Smt. Dlesgracia Sten express her gratitude towards KVK-RiBhoi, she also narrated that she started attending trainings organized by the KVK RiBhoi since the year 2007, she is one of the women entrepreneur from the region who is recognized by the government of Meghalaya. She form the Self Help Group entitled “Tylli Ngin Ieng” with 20 members and have started earning as a group since then. She encourages other women folk to be leaders and pave ways in various aspect be it processing or any other income generating activities for the future of our children and local people. There after followed by Lectures on Role of Women in Tribal area: Entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment by Smt. Rose Khongrymmai: Chair person Women’s group, Presbyterian Church who wish every women a happy women’s day, she enlightened on how women’s day celebration started. She quotes that women are hearts of the family who have the power to make her family happy, she further narrated that women play many roles in the society and women have lots of hidden gifts and talent in them, she encourages many othe women to know their talent and start earning using it. She also mention that unity is strength, so women needs to stand up for each other and empowered one another in the process of working together. Mrs. Eliza C. Syiemlieh, C.T.O. Home Science KVK-RiBhoi explain on the role of women as a mother, an educator and a good manager. She encourages all the SHGs’ group to continue to work hard and grow in their different income generation activities. She further encourage the farm women to come forward and get whatever help required from the department of the KVK-RiBhoi for different training and activities to help them. Mrs. Popiha Bordaloi, SMS, Soil Science, KVK-RiBhoi express that we all are the luckiest to be born in North Eastern Region of India, where Women are well respected and love be it as daughters, sisters, mother etc. she further encourage women to come out of the shell and explore the opportunities equip for them, she also urge the women to educate their children about whatever problems they faced so that the future leader will become knowledgeable on how to tackle problems. Smt. Jessica Dohtdong Technical Officer, KVK-RiBhoi enlightened on both the role of tribal men and women of the Khasi society as a whole, said that women of this region should count themselves blessed to be attached to this community. She further give example that all tribal women are hard working and are seen in many activities be it in agriculture, farming, tailoring, business, government employee, managers, and even decision makers and policy makers. She urge women to keep up their sincerity in all the roles they play as a home maker, a home organizer, as a family income saver, an employee, employer etc. she ask the group to work hand in hand and make sure to help one another and to create a market by popularization and purchased local products and produces to help the future generation with easy marketing channels. She also encourages the women to come to the KVK-RiBhoi for any technical support in any agri. and allied aspects for a sustainable livelihood and up liftment. There was an exhibition cum sale of the products made by the SHGs’ groups in which the 1st prize was awarded to the Kyrsoilang SHGs’ of Umroi Laban Saro, 2nd prize was awarded to the Snohktilang SHGs’ of Umroi Laban Saro, 3rd prize was awarded to Smt. Rose Mary Khongrymmai of Bhoirymbong, 4th prize was was awarded to Dlesgracia Sten of Umroi Nongrah, 5th prize was awarded to Iasynroplang SHG of Laban Saro and the Consolation was awarded to the Iatreilang SHG of Laban Saro. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Smt. Elgiva Wanshnong, Y.P. II, NICRA-TDC, KVK-RiBhoi.
