Training Cum Input Inject Programme Held on Promotion of Pulses Production under TSP

 

A farmer training cum input injection programme was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Manipur Centre Imphal and KVK Chandel at Monsangpantha village on 11 Nov, 2016. The functions was graced by the Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal and Dr. Anup Das, Head, Division of Crop Production, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. The function was started with the welcome and felicitation of dignitaries by the farmers.

The Director, Dr. S. V. Ngachan was given emphasis on diversification with pulses production in hill agriculture with proper utilization of rain water through micro rain water harvesting structure. He has emphasized the success story on maximizing the productivity through micro rain water harvesting (Jalkund) of Mr. Samuel, Chandanpokpi village, Chandel. Due to establishment of Jalkund under NICRA, farmers are able to grow Tomato, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli and other Rabi pulses after harvesting of Rice and he earned more than Rs. 2.00 lakh form tomato from an area of 0.25 ha. He has emphasized that farmers should ensure 200% cropping intensity with the growing of pulses for maximum net returns.
The Joint Director, Dr. N. Prakash, Emphasized that the requirement and deficit of pulses in Manipur. In Projection, he stated that Manipur is required 66 thousand MT pulses against 29.44 thousand production from an area of 32 thousand ha during 2015-16. Therefore, we should put pulses production with the cropping intensification either horizontally or vertically.

Dr. Anup Das, Head Division of crop production and Nodal officer of Pulses North East, stated about the need of the declaration of International pulses year 2016 by United Nations. In his speech, he informed that ICAR Research Complex is covering more than 1650 ha area under pulses. This programme will create awareness about the pulses, which is cheapest source of protein. He was also emphasized that paddy straw should not be burn; it must be utilized for composting, vermicomposting, mushroom cultivation and feed for the animals.

Delivering the key note address, Dr. M. A. Ansari, Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR Manipur Centre, said the area covered by the pulses cultivation for demonstration purpose is 300 ha (Kharif 153 ha and in rabi 147 ha area) in five districts of Manipur namely Chandel, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Imphal West.

The training programme was led by Ts. Leenda Monsang (ACTO), KVK Chandel and resource person were Dr. M. A. Ansari, Scientist (Agronomy), Dr. S. K. Sharma, Scientist (Plant Pathology) of ICAR Manipur Centre, Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, PC Ukhrul KVK, Mr. G. P. Kabuie Programme Coordinator I/C, Chandel. Pea, lentil, Broadbean, Rhizobium, PSB, KSB, Zinc biofertilizers and Nitrofix were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 50 farmers from Chandel, Machi and Tegnoupal Block of Chandel Districts attended the training programme.
