Indo-French Workshop on Scientific Cooperation for Agricultural Research

Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Institute de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) are jointly organized a workshop on Scientific Cooperation for Agricultural Research during 9-11th March, 2015 at NASC, New Delhi.

 

Dr. S. Ayyappan, DG, ICAR and Secretary, DARE inaugurated the workshop and welcomed the participants.

Dr. Francois Houllier, Director General, INRA, Chief Guest of the occasion highlighted the importance of the workshop in the context of the ICAR-INRA MoU, to promote collaborative relations between the scientists of both the countries.  

 

His Excellency Mr. Francois Richier, Ambassador of France in India elaborated the role of knowledge and technology exchange in strengthening the Indo-French agricultural cooperation. 

Shri R. Rajagopal, Additional Secretary, DARE and Secretary, ICAR mentioned the deep rooted Indo-French relationship and termed this workshop as a watershed event.

Dignitaries from ICAR, other Ministries and French Embassy in India participated in the inaugural session.

Fourteen French scientists and 80 Indian scientists from different ICAR institutes, State Agricultural Universities and other National & International organizations from India are participating in the workshop.

The thematic areas   deliberated during the workshop include Genomic Selection, Study of Transition for Global food Security, Diet Impacts & Determinants: Interactions & Transitions Food Processing & Packaging.

   

The workshop was supported by Centre Franco Indien pour la Promotion de la Recherche Avancée ( CEFIPRA), India’s First & France’s only bilateral S&T supporting organization with the objective of developing linkages between scientific communities of the  two countries in the area of agricultural sciences and also to identify possible areas for collaboration

The joint workshop was coordinated by Dr. Alok Jha, Assistant Director General (International Relations), ICAR, Dr. Robert Habib, INRA, France, Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Director, CEFIPRA, New Delhi and Mr. Cedric Prevost from French Embassy in India.

The plenary session, which will be held on 11th March, would witness a discussion on the shortlisted research topics from each thematic area, and the eventual steps for their implementation.
