International Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products Inaugurated

8th International Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products has been inaugurated here today. The conference is a continuum of ICMBMPs organised by World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products, Directorate of Mushroom Research and Mushroom Society of India. The conference will be up to 22 November 2014.
Dr S Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICARin his inaugural address thanked Dr. Jose E Sanchez, President, World Society, for holding the conference in India. Dr Ayyappan said that in addition to food security there will be emphasis on health food and mushroom is on priority list as far as food basket is concerned. He expressed that the conference will be milestone in the journey of mushrooms from remote villages to the malls in metros. Dr Ayyappan emphasized that there is need for quality spawn in remote locations and it is important to establish farm models in value chain format and communication models for generating awareness about mushrooms.
The event was attended by Dr. NK Krishna Kumar, DDG (Hort), Prof Daniel J Royse, Professor Emiratus, Pennstate University, USA, Dr. Jose E Sanchez, Mexico, Dr. Manjit Singh, Director, Directorate of Mushroom Research and Dr. RC Upadhyay, Secretary, Mushroom Society of India.
The conference is attended about 275 participants from more than 22 countries of the world.
