ICAR-NRC Citrus, Nagpur in collaboration with ICAR, Mizoram and District Horticulture Office, Kolasibconducts training programme on “Production technology of Citrus for NEH region”

 

A training programme on Production Technology of Citrus for NEH Region”wasorganized by National Research Centre for Citrus (NRCC), Nagpur, Maharashtrain collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre,Kolasib and District Horticulture office, Kolasib at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib on 17th to 18th October, 2014. About 70citrus growing farmers and 14 horticulture officers including ADHO, HEO, Circle Officers and other staffsfrom different parts of Kolasib district, Mizoram attended
the programme.

Dr. Lungmuana,Scientist (Soil Science) ICAR RC for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre welcome  the  participants  followed  by  introductory  remarks  from  Dr.  I.P  Singh,  Principal Scientist (PS), NRCC, coordinator of the trainingprogramme, Nagpur highlighted the production status of citrus in world and also in India.  Mr. R.P. Meena, SP, Kolasibwho is the Chief Guestexpressed the importance of citrus production status in North East India. He emphasized the needs of awareness from the farmers’ side and requested them to take and adopt good technologies, suitable cultivars etc. given by NRCC, Nagpur for their better livelihood.  Finally vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Farrm Manager, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. In this two days training programme, secateurthe fungicide carbendazim were distributed to all the farmers.

The  technical  programme involves presentation by  the  Scientist  from  NRC,  Citrus, Nagpur namely Dr. I.P.Singh (Training coordinator), Dr. R.A.Marathe and Dr. A.K.Dasand Dr. Y. Ramakhrishna from ICAR, Mizoram on the topics like nursery management, nutrient management, disease management, pest management, production technology of Khasi mandarin and citrus decline and rejuvenation of decline orchards. The scientist has reported the decreasing size of orange in Mizoram which is due to citrus decline. To prevent the citrus from decline they adviseatleast four critical operationfor a citrus farmer. It includes pruning of dead and diseased branches, spraying with carbendazim, pasting the tree with Bordeaux mixture and cleaning of weeds, climbing creepers  and mulching.They also  advised to  avoid planting of ginger and turmeric as an intercrop with citrus due to their heavy nutrient feeding habit. Practical demonstration where techniques to produce healthy seedlings operation like budding, pruning, cleaning etc.A good interaction between the scientist and farmers was there.The programme was closed with distribution of certificates to the farmers and horticulture officials.
