Kisan Mela was organized at ICAR-VPKAS Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh

 

September 29, 2015 - Kisan Mela was organized at ICAR-VPKAS Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh. Main attraction of the mela was distribution of soil health card to farmers. Dr. A.K. Singh, Director ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Dr. P.P. Dhyani, Director GBPIHED, Kosi-Katarmal as a special guest of the occasion. The chief guest while appreciating the achievements made by the institute in improving hill agriculture, emphasized on water conservation and fish farming for additional income generation for marginal and small farmers. The special guest told about the importance of food security and hill agriculture, new initiatives for combating climate change through improved agriculture technologies. Dr. A. Pattanayak, Director of the Institute while welcoming the guests and farmers briefed about the achievements and technologies developed by the institute. He also told about the training programmes and front line demonstrations organized by the institute. Thirty exhibition-cum-sale stalls were laid by ICAR institutes, line departments, NGOs and farmers groups. Farmers-scientist interaction meet was also organized. Institute’s newsletter, “Parvatiya Krishi Darpan” and a technical bulletin on “Pests of Vegetable Crops and their Management” was released by the chief guest. About 700 farmers from different parts of Uttarakhand including tribal farmers participated in the event.
