ICAR-NRCC Participated in International Camel Festival

ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner participated in the International Camel Festival organized by Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, held at Bikaner during January 4 - 5, 2015. ICAR-NRCC demonstrated live elite camels, various extension exhibits, camel milk products and other products of utility like camel leather products, camel hair products, and camel bone products etc. for public awareness and popularization of Camels. The information was shared about Indian camel breeds and various research activities undertaken on camel nutrition, reproduction, health and beneficial properties of camel milk which were also displayed by thematic posters in the stall. In the activities of tourism interest, ICAR-NRCC participated with decorated camels in the ceremonial camel procession and in camel decoration competition. Experts from ICAR-NRCC also contributed as part of judging panels for tourism related competitions held for best camel decoration, camel dance and camel fur cutting events.
Camel milk kulfi, flavored camel milk and pasteurized camel milk were major attractions of the ICAR-NRCC Stall, receiving overwhelming response. A team of NRCC scientists, provided information regarding display of various exhibits. Possible benefits of camel milk as functional food in management of diabetes, autism in children, milk allergy of children to cow milk, arthritis, high cholesterol levels etc. were explained to the visitors.
The Bikaner District Collector and various Government officials of State, Centre and local institutes lauded the efforts of ICAR-NRCC in promotion of Camel related activities. . More than 60000 local people of Rajasthan, about 6500 people from different parts of the country other than Bikaner and more than 125 tourists from various countries like Australia, New Zeeland, USA, Spain, UK, Belgium, Switzerland etc. participated in the festival and visited the ICAR-NRCC stall.
