ICAR-NOFRI Initiated 15-Day Training Program on Organic Farming for Krishi Sakhis of SRLM, RMDD, Government of Sikkim

    ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute (NOFRI), Tadong started 15-day Training Program on ‘Organic Farming’ for the Krishi Sakhis of Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), Rural Management and Development Department (RMDD),  Govt. of Sikkim from July 22 to August 05, 2019 in order to update them with latest organic production technologies. A total of 25 Krishi Sakhis from the East and North districts of Sikkim are participating in the training program. The program is sponsored by RMDD, Govt. of Sikkim.

Shri C.S. Rao, IFS, Secretary, Rural Management and Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function on July 24, 2019. In his address, he appreciated the Joint Director and Scientists of ICAR-NOFRI for their sincere efforts in organizing the 15-day long training program for the Krishi Sakhis. He said that Sikkim state is dependent on ICAR for organic production technologies and this kind of training shall improve the capabilities of Krishi Sakhis to learn the latest organic production technologies before going in to the field. He also motivated the trainees to actively interact with the scientist of ICAR-NOFRI during the training program. He also briefed about various programs and activities taken up by RMDD for the benefit of farmers and rural populace of Sikkim.

Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, IFS, Commissioner, Rural Management and Development Department, Govt. of Sikkim also participated as Guest of Honour. In his address, he appreciated ICAR-NOFRI efforts in Research and Development and rapid transferring of technologies through various training programs. He said that Krishi Sakhis are playing very important role in agricultural activities in Sikkim and by participating in this kind of training program will certainly improve their learning and working abilities. He further mentioned that organic farming information is available, however, best use of that shall make them successful. He also asked Krishi Sakhis to share their learning experience of training program for better understanding. 

Earlier, Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, in his address highlighted the relevance of this training program for Krishi Sakhis. He said that ICAR-NOFRI is playing important role in women empowerment in Sikkim. He mentioned that knowledge is power and ICAR-NOFRI is disseminating the improved production technologies for different crops to the grass root level through various training programs. He also motivated the trainees to learn the organic farming technologies and work with dedication.

Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Principal Scientist (ARG) welcomed all the dignitaries and mentioned about the ICAR-NOFRI various activities. Dr. Ashish Yadav, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) coordinated the program and also proposed vote of thanks. He briefed about the various talks and activities to be undertaken during 15-day training program. Shri S.M. Kandwal (Sr. Technical Officer) moderated the program. Mrs. Rajeni Pradhan, Ms. Reeni Pradhan, Mr. Bandan Chettri, Mr. Ezakeil Khawas and Mr. Topden Tshering Bhutia assisted actively in organizing the program.
